Secondly the Sprites I have created for the ground are also much bigger than 50 pixels by 50 pixels which was the size I had used previously. This extension can be almost endless so level size within Unreal really isn’t a problem, older programs I am use to would have had limits and draw backs in this area. Firstly you will notice after a quick watch that the game level is much longer than my first level, allowing me longer to explore. The bridge for example I re-saturated it and tediously added snow.Ī few things to note on the game video above. Some of the other Sprites in view where utilised from offline and re-coloured and used to template my designs or theme them with the environment. Iv added clothing suitable for his environment, so he has a beanie hat on and he’s wearing gloves, I kept the same colour to help signify that. So using the old character as my template I began the rather drawn out process of re-creating him pixel by pixel until the result you see above was achieved. I wanted to re-draw the main character more than anything, with that being a focus. For example the green of the tree really contrast against the white. The white is very appealing a clean cut, makes other objects really stand out. I decided this time around Snow would be my theme. Below is a screenshot of my game as it stands now. So the object would blend seamlessly with the scene. I’m not certain of the file type range but in my case I used a PNG as transparency is needed so the object or character being drawn or animated is not surrounded by a background colour. The difference in this instance being outside drawing programs are used and then they are imported in to Unreal, in the form of a Sprite sheet. Still using individual frames to make up animations. The process of creating and drawing Sprites remains the same to what I am use to in older Frameworks and programs of a game creation nature. This process after a quick recap and overview of my old game proved to be pretty straight forward. I wanted to go back over adding my own Sprites and creating Flipbooks from them in Unreal.
